16000 trees are planted in Qatar for sustainability

While work on the stadiums in Qatar continues, there are other preparations for the first World Cup in the Middle East. A total of 16,000 trees are planted in the northern part of Qatar. This project has already started with the planting of the first 300 trees. 60 different types of trees and plants will be planted for the World Cup 2022. A central role will be played by the Sidra tree, which has been growing in the desert for generations.

A large part of dressing up the play cities is devoted to the appearance of the football stadium in the city. Stadiums are built sustainably, but are not the only thing that can be used sustainably by the local population. The landscaped green areas and parks will also continue to exist after the 2022 World Cup. FIFA set up a company in 2016 that can meet the demand for trees and plants by play cities throughout Qatar.

The work has already started with an area of ??880,000 square meters next to the Doha North Sewage Treatment Works Plant, where the company is located. This space will be divided into various areas, depending on the landscape. Close by are two lakes of 18,000 square meters with sufficient capacity to provide the company with a three-day supply.

" It is a very ambitious project that we see as a legacy & rdquo ;, said Yasser Al Mulla. " We want to cater to all areas that will face the World Cup in 2022, by harvesting the grasslands around the stadiums three times a year. This means that 1.2 million square meters of grass will be produced per year. By using the water of the lakes, we ensure that the project is as sustainable as possible. "

Al Mulla explains that the project provides several construction companies with grass and trees around the football stadiums to stand. This gives the people of Qatar the opportunity and the space to relax. " A team will advise construction companies on how best to handle the trees. All trees that come from the FIFA company have a map with all kinds of info, such as the origin, name and life cycle.

The entire perimeter of the area will be planted with trees that will serve as windbreakers. The project will produce around 60 different types of trees, including the Sidra, Ficus and Acacia trees from Qatar, Asia & euml; and Europe. An area of ??30,000 square meters will be set up to grow the 16,000 trees and another area will be used for the growth of 3,000 trees for the World Football Championship in 2022.

Before new grass or new trees to be planted, 10 cm of new fertile soil is first deposited. Trees grow two to five years before they will be moved to the play cities by Qatar.
