Al Jazeera Sport buys the broadcasting rights of the 2022 World Cup

Some of the broadcasting rights of the 2022 World Cup have been sold to Al Jazeera Sport. FIFA announced this on January 26, 2011. This agreement is the first signed agreement of the media rights of FIFA and the Football World Cup. A few weeks ago it was announced that the football tournament will be held in Qatar.

The agreement with Al Jazeera Sport, with headquarters in Qatar, includes cable, satellite, mobile and broadband internet in 23 different areas and countries in the Middle East and North Africa. This gives Al Jazeera Sport the rights and obligations to make the World Football Championship accessible to the general public in 2022 for football fans from the Middle East and North Africa.

Al Jazeera Sport has been working with FIFA, which gives the sports channel the rights to broadcast three World Cups. This means that the channel may broadcast the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the 2018 World Cup in Russia and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
