FIFA and UEFA suspend all Russian clubs and national team

FIFA and UEFA suspend all Russian football clubs and the national team from all competitions. The unions took this decision in response to the war in Ukraine.

This means that no football club from Russia is allowed to participate in tournaments and competitions organized by the World Football Association and the European Football Association. This decision has been taken until further notice.

According to the unions, football is completely in solidarity with all people in Ukraine. The presidents of the unions hope that the situation in the war zone will improve quickly, so that football can once again bring togetherness and peace among the people.

It is not clear exactly what the suspension of Russia means due to the qualifying playoffs for the 2022 World Cup. Direct opponents Poland, Sweden and the Czech Republic have already announced that they will not win against the Russians.
