FIFA wants to organize World Cup every two years, but UEFA is against

World football association FIFA wants to organize the World Cup every two years, instead of every four years. The European football association UEFA is against these plans, because of its own European Football Championship that is taking place in the meantime.

FIFA recently announced that it is investigating a World Cup that will be held every two years. The idea behind the plan is to raise the level of top football through more international matches at the highest level. Fewer qualifying matches can then be played.

There will also be fewer international matches played during the season, so that the players can spend more time with their club.

The football calendar is fixed until 2024, but FIFA is already thinking about a new interpretation from 2025. However, the new proposal has not been discussed with the national football associations.

If the World Cup is to be organized every two years in the future, major tournaments such as the European Championship, the Nations League, the Asian Cup, the Africa Cup and the Copa América may be cancelled.
