Khalifa International Stadium is host to the Emir Cup final
The Khalifa International Stadium is the first stadium of the 2022 World Cup that is ready, five years before the opening match. On Friday, May 19, the final of the Emir Cup 2017 will be played in the new football temple. The football stadium will be opened for the match between rivals Al Rayyan and Al Sadd.
" We are very pleased to announce that the final of the Emir Cup 2017 will be played at the Khalifa International Stadium, " said the Qatar Football Association president, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani. The opening game and the final of the Golf Cup will also be played in December 2017.
The Khalifa International Stadium has undergone a major renovation, towards the matches up to the quarter final of the 2022 World Championship in Qatar. The new features are fully in accordance with FIFA conditions, including an additional grandstand on the east side of the stadium. In addition, an innovative cooling system has been installed, allowing spectators and players to play soccer at comfortable temperatures throughout the year. The new system uses 40% less energy than the conventional systems. There is also a sports museum under the stadium.
