Qatar cuts the budget for the stadiums of the 2022 World Cup

Qatar has cut the budget for organizing the 2022 World Cup. The golf state is going to spend 40% - 50% less than originally budgeted on housing the football tournament. Hassan Al Thawadi, who is in charge of the project, announces that this was already the plan.

" We wanted to ensure that there was a financial basis for the infrastructure for the World Cup. . That is why we made an early budget, the plan being to reduce it as the market and the project would become clearer and clearer and therefore we could map the final picture & quot ;, says Al Thawadi.

Al Thawadi now expects the organization of the Qatar World Cup to cost between 8 and 10 billion dollars. The cutbacks mainly have consequences for stadium construction. According to the Qatar bid, the World Cup would be played in twelve stadiums , but with FIFA agreement, this number is reduced to eight. Qatar is building seven new stadiums, one already existing complex is being renovated.

Oil and gas prices are falling worldwide, although according to Al Thawadi this has nothing to do with the contraction of the budget. " This was already from day & eacute; & eacute; n the plan & quot ;, Al Thawadi concludes.
